Arkiva Tropika is the online archive of the collection of Mimi Payne. This large collection includes a wide array of mostly pre-1970 menus, postcards, matchbooks, and paper ephemera souvenir items, mainly from Polynesian and other Exotic themed restaurants, hotels, nightclubs, bars, and the like.

Search Help

Text Search

If you select "Text" for your search, search will return items that have descriptive text that matches the terms you entered. You can use quotes to search for phrases, and use a "-" before a search term to return only items that do not have that search term.

Tags Search

Each picture in Arkiva Tropika has tags associated with it. You can use tags to select and restrict the pictures you want to see. To search for multi-word tags, put them in quotes. To remove any items from your search with a particular tag, put a "-" in front of it.

postcard

This search returns all the pictures in Arkiva Tropika with the "postcard" tag.

hotel postcard

This search returns only the pictures in Arkiva Tropika that have both the "hotel" and the "postcard" tag.

hotel postcard -"hotel room"

This search returns only the pictures in Arkiva Tropika that have both the "hotel" and the "postcard" tag, and no pictures that have the "hotel room" tag, because it has a "-" before it. "hotel room" is two words, but one single tag, so it is put in quotes.
