A vintage piece of Bay Area tiki history is up for sale on Craigslist and it can be your for the low low price of $8500. Lanai Liquors, once located adjacent to the renowned Tiki bar and restaurant called The Lanai in San Mateo, has been discovered in storage. This sign, measuring 10-foot-5-inch square, is a significant relic from the Bay Area’s atomic era. Lanai, the liquor store’s Polynesian-themed counterpart, was known for its authentic luau pit, indoor waterfall, and a 3D mural decorated with fish skins and sea shells. The restaurant transported patrons to an island paradise and served exotic dishes and tropical drinks. Old menus even listed offerings like Mandarin pressed duck and frog legs priced at $2.75. The adjacent liquor store boasted a global selection of wines and spirits. Patrick Kelley, the sign’s current owner and a San Mateo native, recalled taking his prom date to Lanai and visiting the bar with friends after Stanford football games, where they would enjoy a drink called the sidewinder.

The sign is now available on Craigslist. I don’t know how set in stone the price is, but if you have a giant yard or a home tiki bar with a big place on the wall to fill, this could be for you.
