Tahiti Bar Philadelphia Matchbook Vintage Advertising Tiki Bar T-Shirt
The Tahiti Bar was actually more of a strip club than a tiki bar. While we assume they did sell drinks the Suffering Bastards they served were their male customers who came in for what was really the club?s primary product; exotic dancers wearing nothing more than their birthday suits. Apparently the state of Pennsylvania Alcohol Beverage Control Department took away the clubs liquor license as nude dancing and booze are forbidden together in almost every state in the union.
Not a bunch to go down without a fight the Tahiti Bar owners sued the state to allow their permit to continue, citing a first amendment right on the part of the dancers to perform naked. The lawsuit went to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court where it lost, and soon the Tahiti Bar vanished just as quickly as pasties on one of their strippers.
They left behind a cool matchbook though, which we dutifully traced and restored and now imprinted on a T-shirt using our very own direct-to-garment printer. DTG printing is not a sublimation, transfer or screen print, but process that spray water based inks on a T-shirt for a soft, natural feel that holds up well in the wash.
